A volunteer mentor will be expected to mentor one hour a week mandatory. Mentors are expected to come in every week with the exception of vacations, days off, and sick days. If a mentor must miss a session they must call in so the child can be notified. If the mentor misses two weeks in a row without a legitimate reason the child will be assigned a new mentor.
The Carver Promise staff along with Virginia One to One will provide workshops in mentoring. Workshops are three hours long and it is only required that mentors attend one. The sessions will be provided several times during the beginning of first and second semester.
Volunteer mentors are expected to pick up their mentees from the classroom, and take them to the mentor room. During sessions there is to be one half hour doing schoolwork and if there is time left they may engage in a social activity such as playing games, reading, etc. Mentors will be responsible for finding out what their child’s weaknesses are in school from their mentee’s teacher and working on these problems with them. Mentors are also required to sign out in the sign in book and input their sessions data into Logic Depot on the computer.
